Labor Day Weekend

Free Music Jam at the Rose Garden Park

The September jam will be held in the Rose Garden Park on Naglee Ave. at Garden Dr. (adjacent to San José Municipal Rose Garden). The park is just two blocks from our usual Hoover Middle School location. Free admission (but donations are much appreciated). (Note: We will not have our usual open-mike performances at this jam.)

If you'd like to participate in a Slow Jam or Tune Builder Circle, please ask. For jams in the park we generally arrange them only on demand.

Bring a picnic if you like (barbeques are available in the park), and come to jam or just to listen. Come early and help us by reserving a table!

Music Jam and Open Mike at Hoover School and a Mini-Concert

Join us at the November jam at Hoover School for music indoors and out. Our usual format: multiple jam groups from 1-5, open-mike performances on stage in the Hoover multi-purpose room starting around 1:30 (no contest is planned this year) and the two learning groups: the Slow Jam group starting at about 1:30, and the Tune Builder group starting at about 2:00, each for an hour or so.

Goat Hill Girls photo
We have a special treat in store for this jam: The Goat Hill Girls will perform a mini-concert at about 3:00 pm. The band, named for a landmark in the Santa Cruz Mountains, performs a number of songs featuring California (showing off the song writing talents of several band members), as well as a mix of traditional bluegrass, vintage country, old-time, Irish and a few novelty songs. Many in the band have played together for nearly 40 years. Here is the PDF event flyer.

If you love their music as much as we think you will, take some home with you: we expect to have the band's new CD, “The Goat Hill Girls LIVE” available for purchase.

Band members include Sonia Shell on banjo, Lee Anne Welch on fiddle, Linda Maki on guitar, Kim Elking on mandolin and Lisa Burns on stand-up bass

There is no extra admission charge for this event.

Music Jam and Open Mike at Hoover School, plus our Holiday Potluck

We expect to hold our annual Holiday Potluck at the December 1 Jam. This is a great chance to meet some of the other members and their families. We usually jam from 1:00 until 3:00 or so (with our usual Learning groups: the Slow Jam from 1:30 to 2:30 and the Tune Builder from around 2 to 3), and then start serving the meal.

Check back as the date approaches for more details.  If you can help, please contact President Susan Goodis, at president /at/ fiddlers.org
